The TNBC Voting System

At the right of your screen you'll see a list of the top three locations competing for this week's TNBC spot. Don't like what you see there? Vote for your location! All you need to do is click on the link below to access the voting list, and vote for your stop. You may submit one vote per day and at midnight each Tuesday the votes are tallied and the location with the most votes gets assigned as the next TNBC locale.

Why TNBC.net?

In January 2005 we established a group on Yahoo for TNBC, where people could sign up to our distribution list.

The Old Method: The Distribution List

While on Yahoo Groups, the purpose of the distribution list was for each TNBC member to be assigned a Thursday. Basically when a new person signed up they were given the next available Thurday. While this worked with our core members, who excitedly planned ahead and made reservations at their favourite restaurants, it did work that well with new recruits, especially when their Thursday, due to our growing member base, was more than a year away. In other words, someone would sign up to the distribution list to find out when the next TNBC would take place but would never announce their own TNBC location.

The New Method: Voting

While the purpose of TNBC has always been that the club more or less runs itself (is run by its members), the problem of member's remembering their TNBC Thursday defeated this. Derrick, my co-moderator and I would end up sending out reminders for people to post their location virtually every week. This dilemma has led to the creation of our new voting system. The weekly TNBC locations are now chosen from a list of locations that is built together from past locations and locations suggested by members that we have not yet visited.
